Why Cannes property should be firmly on your French Riviera radar
Updated: Oct 25, 2018
Cannes is one of the most coveted destinations in the world – lively all year round, it is perfect for clients who want to cover their holiday home investment
Each year more than 11 million tourists visit the Côte d’Azur and stay for six or seven nights. At least two million of these visitors come to Cannes. With Nice international airport just 25 minutes away and its very own airport just outside the centre, it is easy to mix business and pleasure in Cannes.
Successfully rent your property all year round
Around half of Home Hunts’ buyers want to rent out their properties so they need to purchase homes in locations that are in demand. Seaside resorts can be quiet in winter, but Cannes is one of the exceptions as it’s possible to rent a property all year round.
“If a client is looking to buy with a view to renting as much as possible there are certain places we recommend, and Cannes is one of them,” says Tim Swannie, Director of Home Hunts. “There is a year-round rental market there, not just the tourists in the summer, but the many conferences mean there are constant business visitors to the town.”
If renting the property to the business market is important to you then your purchase needs to be within a 20-minute walk of the Palais des Festivals. Whether people are in town for the film festival, Cannes Lions or the Yachting Festival (the biggest boat show in Europe) – just a few of the many high-profile events on during the year – proximity is essential.
One of the most glamorous locations in the world
It is the Cannes Film Festival which rocketed Cannes into the international spotlight. The first important global event after the Second World War, the festival has been a city of stars since it launched in 1946.
The beauty of Cannes is that stars and regular holidaymakers share the same streets and it’s considered business as usual. Of course, during the festival the concentration of A-listers in the area rises. At the 71st festival in May 2018, Sting, Kristen Stewart, Woody Harrelson, Pierce Brosnan, Spike Lee and Cate Blanchett (president of the jury) were among the most famous stars attending.
